  1. Cheet Sheets
  2. @Introduction
  3. ~Welcome to Cheet Sheets, issue 41 - June 1995
  4.  
  5. Cheet Sheets must be installed to your hard disk before it
  6. can be used. The install program will be run when you exit
  7. this program (by selecting CLOSE) if you have started via
  8. GO.BAT. Alternatively type INSTALL at the DOS prompt.
  9.

  11. the main magazine.

  13. ~System Requirements
  14.  
  15.      ■ 286+ with VGA and (about) 520k free Ram
  16.      ■ 2.5Mb of free hard disk space
  17.      ■ A mouse and SoundBlaster are optional but recommended
  18.  
  19. ~A Windows interface is available - see issue 40 for info.
  20.  
  21. ~Mouse Control
  22.  
  23. Use the left mouse button to select any button, close
  24. windows using the close boxes and control the program using
  25. the icon bar.
  26.  
  27. To move through the pages of an article simply click on the
  28. up and down arrows at the right of the screen, or use the
  29. arrow keys/page up/page down!
  30.  
  31. ~Keyboard Control
  32.  
  33. Cursor: Move the mouse cursor using the arrow keys and press
  34. the spacebar where you would usually use the mouse button.
  35.  
  36. Push buttons: If an underlined letter is shown, type that
  37. letter. Otherwise, move the cursor over the button and press
  38. the spacebar.
  39.  
  40. Closing Windows: If a close box is displayed on the active
  41. window, press escape to close the window.

  73. ~Music & Command Line Options
  74.  
  75. INSTALL /m or CHEET /m - Uses the Software cursor - needed
  76. on some amstrads and other machines where no mouse cursor is
  77. visible.
  78.  
  79. CHEET /silent - Silence. Kills the sound entirely. If you
  80. haven't got a sound card and get fed up of the screech, or
  81. find the program hangs, use this option.
  82.  
  83. CHEET /SP - Force Speaker to be used for sound output. Don't
  84. know why you'ld want to do this!
  85.  
  86. CHEET /SB - Force Soundblaster output. Use this switch if
  87. your SoundBlaster (or especially a compatible card) is not
  88. detected.

  90. If your system locks after you select too high a sampling
  91. rate, simply restart - Cheet Sheets will notice that it
  92. has crashed, and reset the sampling rate to the lowest
  93. setting.
  94.  
  95. ~GREAT NEW FEATURE! If you've not got a sound card, using
  96. ~the "Play" (Noise Suppressor) in the viewer *vastly*
  97. ~improves music quality!

  99. @Submissions
  100. ~Submitting your work
  101.  
  102. If you are thinking of submitting an article or a cheat,
  103. you'll save us a lot of time if you follow these guides...
  104.  
  105. ~Text files
  106. ■ All files must be saved in ASCII format (there are options
  107. on all common Word Processors to do so).
  108.  
  109. ■ Each article must be a maximum of 70 characters wide and
  110. no more than 1600 lines. If you require more than 1600
  111. lines, split your text into separate files.
  112.  
  113. ■ An articles first line must be the name of the
  114. program/article. Please include your name in the article.
  115.  
  116. ■ To highlight a line, put a ~ at the start.
  117.  
  118. ■ If you include tables or IBM graphics characters on a
  119. line, start the line with a backwards quote ` found on the
  120. key beneath escape. This makes the line monospaced. You can
  121. highlighted a monospace line by putting ~` at the start.
  122.  
  123. ■ If you send screen shots, please size them to 320x200
  124. with 256 colours and save in PCX format. Use something
  125. like Graphics Workshop or Paint Shop Pro to do this.
  126.  
  127. ■ If you're including screen shots, save us some time! Make
  128. sure the second line of your review is a number, indicating
  129. the no of screen shots, then subsequent lines should hold
  130. the file names (PCX only). Just like this:

  143. ~Q: When I went to print a solution/review etc.. I receive
  144. ~an error dialogue box telling me that my printer is
  145. ~offline, or nothing is printed.
  146.  
  147. A: The current release of NGS GUI only supports LPT1. If you
  148. printer is connected to a different port, you will not be
  149. able to print.
  150.  
  151. ~Q: I'm bored with the music, but haven't finished reading
  152. ~the mag yet... how can I change it?
  153.  
  154. A: Firstly, remember that there are 3+ tunes with each
  155. issue... have you tried them all?  If you have, simply copy
  156. your favourite MOD files into the Cheet directory.
  157. Depending on the free DOS memory on your machine,
  158. modules greater than 200k may not play. Cheet Sheets will
  159. not play the old style 16 voice MOD format!

  161. ~Q: Where can I get Cheet Sheets by FTP?
  162.  
  163. A: Dunno. If you find it somewhere, please tell us!  The 
  164. email address mentioned in previous issues for uuencoded
  165. copies is no longer open.

  171. ~Known examples of the Negatively Expanded Feature Set
  172.  
  173. ~Scrolling
  174.  
  175. We've fixed the Scrolling problem found with earlier copies
  176. where you had to select "Safe Scroll". Cheet Sheets now
  177. autodetects incompatible VGA cards and uses a "Page at a
  178. time" scroll instead on such machines.  What this does
  179. mean is that the cursor keys work the same as PageUp/PageDown
  180. on such computers.

  182. ~Scrolling without mouse
  183.  
  184. If you've no mouse, the up and down arrows move your cursor
  185. and do not scroll the screen. To scroll either use the PageUp
  186. and PageDown keys, or alternatively use CTRL with these keys
  187. to scroll one line at a time.

  189. ~Install
  190.  
  191. If the INSTALL program fails, you may not have enough free
  192. DOS memory. You need at least 512k free to install and use
  193. Cheet Sheets 31+. Note that this is 512k free and not 512k
  194. total. The actual Cheet Sheets program will run with about
  195. 350k free if you can live without the music.
